Earn Your High School Diploma

Career Online High School

The Alameda County Library, in partnership with the California State Library and Gale-Cengage Learning, offers adults the opportunity to earn an accredited high diploma and one of eight career certificates online through the Career Online High School (COHS).

The library’s pilot program provides a limited number of scholarships to qualified adult learners who are looking to expand their career opportunities, prepare for workplace entry and continue their education.  The scholarships are funded by the Alameda County Library Foundation and the State Library.

Career Online High School offered by the Alameda County Library is open to eligible Ashland, Cherryland, San Lorenzo, as well as Union City, Newark and Fremont residents. Applicants who successfully complete an online self-assessment and two week prerequisite course, followed by an in-person interview, will be considered for enrollment and a scholarship.

Once enrolled in the program, Career Online High School pairs each student with an academic coach, who provides the student with an individual career path, offers on-going guidance, evaluates performance and connects the student with the resources needed to master the courses. Students will be given up to 18 months to complete the program.  Students may transfer credit from accredited High School courses which will shorten the diploma completion.
